VPIphotonics announces the release of VPIlinkDesigner Version 4.6, a software tool for optical link engineering including automated equipment placement and configuration and a thorough system wide performance assessment. It supports equipment configuration and detailed performance calculation of complex networks including ROADMs and true ring topologies.
Version 4.6 improves the network design workflow and provides new functionality that simplifies configuration of high bit
rate traffic demands. The support for new optical signal metrics and transmission-aware receiver thresholds improve QoT assessment.
The enhancements of 4.6 version simplify the handling of resource-demanding tasks such as large scale network designs that utilize flexgrid.

VPIlinkDesigner of Version 4.6
New signal metrics allow to model accumulated polarization dependent loss
New receiver thresholds, such as accumulated PMD and PDL limits, permit estimation of quality of transmission line in accordance with MSA OpenROADM standard
Enhanced receiver estimation model allows to estimate required OSNR at the receiver side with respect to transmission aware impairments, such as accumulated CD, PMD, PDL and ROP
A list of transceivers based on OpenROADM specifications added to exemplary equipment library allows to model 100G-800G transmission lines and account for transmission-aware penalties at QoT assessment
Enhanced Reporting tool generates extended performance report for every facility in the network, including signal metrics such as channel power, total power, OSNR, accumulated CD, PMD, PDL
New report with equipment per chassis on a node-by-node basis is generated along with a Bill of Materials report
Improved chassis allocation algorithm allows to populate empty slots in equipment specific chassis by another compatible equipment
Improved transceiver allocation algorithm in Setup Node Equipment tool accounts for any compatible transceiver with bandwidth, that fits in an available frequency slot
