Training on Design of Photonic Integrated Circuits

VPIphotonics is offering a workshop on the efficient modeling and design of heterogeneous photonic integrated circuits using VPIcomponentMaker Photonic Circuits and its toolkits.

This hands-on 2½-days workshop will take place on September 12-14, 2016 at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin, Germany.

Attendees will learn about the design, analysis and optimization of photonic integrated circuits and optoelectronic applications, and how to interface with layout design and device-level modeling tools. They will get acquainted with the software and learn about efficient modeling techniques.

Starting on Sep-12 in the afternoon, the following topics will be covered:

  • Photonic design environment – getting started
  • Signal modes and simulation domains
  • Design of passive photonic circuits
  • Design of lasers and other active photonic devices
  • Design of PICs combining active and passive functions
  • Layout-aware circuit design using Process Design Kits
    (incl. interface to layout tools)
  • Design of integrated waveguides (using VPImodeDesigner)
  • Application cases, your own designs
