VPIlinkConfigurator™ Version 3.0

The new release of VPIlinkConfigurator offers enhanced scripting capabilities and support for more complex networks including branching topologies. This new release will enable engineers to consider complete optical networks without the need or inaccuracies of decomposing complex networks down to a collection of linear links. Thus, users can respond more quickly and easily to optical network design tasks, product application requests and Requests For Quote (RFQs).

VPIlinkConfigurator version 3.0 supports equipment configuration of complex network topologies containing nodes that serve as traffic branching and re-entry points. Interconnected links are shown in a two-dimensional topology display which allows visualizing details of nodes, repeater huts and fiber routes. The product's powerful link modeling capabilities ensure that designs comply with all physical layer design rules and are cost optimal, taking into account available equipment choices.

Furthermore, version 3.0 offers an enhanced scripting interface allowing users to control VPIlinkConfigurator from third party programs via a simple Basic script. A powerful API allows for virtually complete control of the link design process and performance assessment using familiar programming tools and integrated with other applications including, for example Excel and MS Access. Thus the scripting and debugging can be performed quickly and without the need for learning yet another scripting language or programming suite.

VPIlinkConfigurator version 3.0 designs can be exported to VPItransmissionMaker WDM for more detailed expert simulations. VPItransmissionMaker also offers means for tracking, visualizing and analyzing signal properties along the fiber link without the need to run time intensive simulations. Properties such as signal, noise and distortion powers, GVD, DGD and nonlinear phase shift, OSNR, Q-factor and BER-limits can be evaluated versus geographical position, physical distance or frequency.
