Hybrid Raman EDF Amplifier
VPIcomponentMaker™ Optical Amplifiers is a unified environment for optimizing the gain, noise and efficiency characteristics of hybrid doped and Raman amplifiers.
This example shows a hybrid amplifier with one doped-fiber stage followed by two Raman stages. Interstage optical isolators prevent the build-up of backward signals and ASE, and interstage and output gain flattening is use to obtain wide-bandwidth amplification.
Amplifier topologies can be compared using VPIcomponentMaker™. A design, selected and optimized from a gain and noise figure perspective, can be dropped into a systems simulation using VPItransmissionMaker™ by cutting and pasting within the same GUI, as the amplifier models are designed to process systems signal types, such as sampled bands.
