FWM in EDF Amplifiers

1. L-band Erbuim-Doped Fiber Amplifiers rely on long fiber lengths to achieve a reasonable gain even at the low inversions required to get L-band amplification.
2. In power amplifiers, this arrangement has the potential of strong Four-Wave-Mixing because of the high power levels over long lengths.
3. The sophisticated amplifier modeling algorithms in VPItransmissionMaker™ WDM, when combined with VPIcomponentMaker™ Optical Amplifiers, include the effects of Four-Wave Mixing.
4. Forward and Backward-Pumped amplifiers have significant FWM differences due to the higher average powers in the forward-pumped scheme.
