Coarse WDM System with BER Estimation

  1. CWDM systems offer large cost savings over dense WDM systems, with the disadvantage of a considerably smaller total capacity.
  2. Signal representations simulate CDWM efficiently by tracking regions of spectral interest with multiple simulation bands, while discarding unwanted (signal-free) simulation bandwidth between CWDM channels.
  3. The Laser Parameter Extractor finds laser parameters from common laboratory measurements, so that a rate equation model can be used to predict directly-modulated systems performance under various drive conditions and parameter statistical variations.
  4. Electronic equalizers and adaptive filters can be used to assess electrical compensation of optical degradations, or partial O-E-O regeneration.
  5. This example shows how to estimate BER versus Received Optical power for one channel of a Coarse WDM system with an SOA. The impact of ASE x ASE noise is significant due to the wide CWDM filter bandwidth.
