3-Level EDF Model
VPIcomponentMaker™ Optical Amplifiers contains detailed doped-fiber/ waveguide and Raman models that can be used directly in VPItransmissionMaker™ for systems simulations, without changing the GUI.
This example shows the importance of 3-level modeling of L-band Erbium-doped amplifiers.
A wide variety of fiber amplifier descriptions is catered for, including Giles and Gain and Absorption cross sections, homogeneous and inhomogeneous gain, temperature dependences and high-doping effects.
The fiber and waveguide amplifier models include built-in mode solvers for calculating pump-signal overlaps over a wide wavelength range. Alternatively, mode profiles can be entered directly, or wavelength-dependent overlap factors specified.
