There are seven basic steps in designing a WDM system:

  • Step 1: Start VPIlinkDesigner
Start VPIlinkDesigner. Create a new design package and save it.

  • Step 2: Input WDM System Requirements
Input the WDM system requirements in the Requirements view.

  • Step 3: Create WDM System Topology
Create the WDM system topology in the Topology view.

  • Step 4: Place Network Equipment into Nodes
Place OADMs into nodes, and configure their parameters.

  • Step 5: Assess the Performance of the WDM System.
View overall system performance parameters in
the Comparison view and charts in the Interactive view.

  • Step 6: Perform Link Loss and Dispersion Compensation
Place DCMs and EDFAs in the design using the
charting features in the Interactive view.

  • Step 7: View the WDM System Reports
View a range of reports for the active WDM system
       in the Reporting view.
