VPIphotonics at 2018 Summer Conferences

Advanced Photonics 2018

OSA Advanced Photonics Congress 2018

July 2-5, 2018 in Zurich (Switzerland)

VPIphotonics will present latest news about its software solutions for photonic design and analysis at Advanced Photonics Congress 2018.

The OSA Advanced Photonics Congress, comprised of eight topical meetings, addresses the many aspects of photonic device research and development and their use in networks.

Integrated photonic circuits and stand-alone components such as switches and modulators in silicon, lll-V, graphene and polymer material systems are covered, as well as nano-photonic and quantum devices and concepts.

Novel materials such as metamaterials, plasmonics, and other specially designed materials and their potential use in devices are examined as well as advances in materials with optical gain, nonlinear optical materials, novel optical glasses and crystals and ceramics.

The latest uses of photonics for sensors such as fiber sensors, for light sources, and for data transfer are examined. The latest advances in optical interconnects, switching technologies, signal processing and network virtualization are also presentation topics.

Abstract: We review the principle of multidimensional (multi-D) trellis coded modulation (TCM). We describe the structure of multi-D TCM schemes and discuss their main advantages. Numerical simulations show that multi-D TCM combined with simple hard-decision forward error correction (HD-FEC) codes are of practical interest, as they can provide a better trade-off between complexity and performance, compared to soft-decision (SD-)FEC alternatives. Moreover, the scheme is resilient to cycle-slip events due to its 90 degree phase rotation-invariant property.

ICTON 2018

Abstract: A programmable InP-based Tbit optical-DAC transmitter is discussed. Through electro-optic co-design and simulation of the transmitter's components, the performance is evaluated. The comparison with a traditional DAC plus linear driver approach is presented, with a significant advantage of the optical DAC for complex modulation schemes. Low power (1.3 pJ/bit) transmission of a 56 Gbaud dual-polarization probabilistically-shaped 256-QAM signal is shown.
